Quote of the Damn Day: Mr. Smarty Pants on David Foster Wallace

The closest thing I can think of that even comes close to explaining my quasi-unexplainable sadness at DFW’s death is my realization after seeing The Dark Knight, that Heath Ledger had just pulled off something rather extraordinary, and that I wished he wasn’t dead so I could see what else he could do. I wish you weren’t dead David. I wish you were still here, with us, writing, thinking, and living.

This statement just hits the nail on the head for me. Actually the whole piece was brilliant. Here is a link for anyone who is interested in reading it.

There are others that I wish weren't gone too soon.

Amen to that.

Well, I'm at a loss. Because our stupid network administrator won't let me open this link because it claims there's pornography. But, I just checked, and it lets me open Wal-mart and the NRA just fine. So, I don't get it.

Anyway, I'll try to read this from home, where all the porn in the world can get through, but just as an aside to what is undoubtedly a very nice article, I must say this:

I was sad about Wallace, and I have been very sad about other folks, like Madame Curie and Steig Larsson, but then sometimes I think about how I didn't know them and I am probably romanticising them out of some misplaced ideal, however, my sister in law is right here and I should try to get to know her better before she goes.

but, then... nah.

Parabolic Muse,
I hear you. There are some people right near me I would not enjoy getting to know AT ALL. Laugh.

Love you.
