Shit SB Says
A whole lot of Americans are unhappy. Don't make the mistake of thinking the expanding waistlines are only due to all the damn food in this country. Some of us are trying to fill a hole inside. Something fundamental is just missing.
It's marketing that has killed happiness. They've been telling us our entire lives that we aren't happy, complete, pretty or smart without their products - but there is always something else. Oh - wait - we need to be famous! And rich! but the rich and famous are fucked up and failing rehab worse than the homeless. Oh - and we're guilty too - because of the homeless and the starving Ethiopians or whatever wasted child of the month. And we've killed the polar bears and Bengal tigers and West Nile virus is coming to get us if we don't already have herpes or AIDS.
I'll split my bag of M & M's with you if you'll share your cheesies.Let's get a pizza too - to suck up some of this beer.
Jeannie, As I read your comment, I was eating an M&M cookie and a Halloween cupcake (it's treat day here in the office). Seriously, I was. I'll hang out and eat junk with you, any damn day.
Well, there's way more bullshit than there used to be. But ultimately it's up to us to create our own meaning and value and life. It's a mistake to expect the culture or something outside of us to do that for us or to us. There has always been bullshit in the world.
You have identified the problem exactly as I see it, too!
What's missing IS fundamental. I have some thoughts on it and will let them gel a bit and if I get any clarity, I will post another comment! Don't hold your breath though :) M
Emotional eating is a real problem--just like any addiction. I have a sponsee who goes to food addicts anonymous. Same as AA, except he wants to eat all the time. Filling a hole with food--a very good point.
I am a Gen-X, lazy, manic-depressive bastard, with an eating disorder, OCD, and a propensity for alcoholism. I am basically hell to live with, but I enjoy red wine, Ritalin, reality TV, and disdainful cats. This description could also be useful as a personal ad for a dating service.

I believe this is true, love. I really do.
