Case in Point About Pit Bulls

This one's owner was clearly a scumbag. I DO NOT AT ALL believe such behavior is inherent in the breed.

Others, who asked not to be identified, said the owner abused his animal -- turning a once-tame pet into a snarling beast.

“I knew him when he was a good-natured and good dog,” said one man. “I took him for a walk once. The dog takes on the personality of the owner.

“If the dog is mistreated, he’s going to mistreat others.”

What a terrible thing, all the way around.

I fucking love pit bulls. I have had quite a few. But I would never have an unneutered male. Or even perhaps a neutered one. The ones I had, even raised from pups, could be the sweetest dogs in the entire world and never be aggressive towards humans but as soon as they matured, if they saw another dog, they wanted to kill it. And my females even fought sometimes, each other, for alpha-status and if a child had gotten in the midst of it- they would have gotten killed. The problem is that there are certain inherent traits in the breed- man-created, of course- and one of them is to fight to the death.
Having said all of that, when they are sweet, they are angel dogs but I could never know when one would get triggered by something. It was scary.

Pit bulls are illegal here. They are bred to be fighters and so, they are strong and not timid. Trained properly - they would be as safe as the next dog though you wouldn't want to be there if it broke training...Unfortunately, the characteristics of the breed attracts a lot of asshole owners who can't be trusted to bring out the best of the dogs. Around here, I have noticed that many German Shepherds are aggressive - just like their owners. Same mentality as idiots who buy yellow hummers.
