A Rebel at the Damn Sexist Lutheran Church

When SB used to be roped into attending a Lutheran church with her ex-husband, they always had sections where the congregation was divided into the men and the women to do a response reading. Shit pissed me off. That bullshit was SEXIST AS FUCK. To prove a damn point, my ass read with the men.

SB is a DEFIANT MOTHERFUCKER, like Steve McQueen and John Mellencamp. It's a Midwestern thang, bitches! If you're not from the Midwest, your dumb ass will not understand.

Are you kidding me? Really? They divided the men and women up for responses?
GAWD!
Well.
You must have really loved that husband.

My buddy Anna is a Lutheran, but her church doesn't do that. I don't think their pastor, who is a woman, would be much for it. But then, she goes to a liberal Lutheran church - I hear there's a whole different type that are sort of the opposite.

My hackles rise at ridiculous displays of sexism. What amazes me is how much more prevalent it was back in the 70's. We've come a long way baby.

Ms. Moon,
I did, babe. I really did.

DTG,
I did not know that, as Johnny Carson would say.

Reeny,
Thanks! And I am a fan of Canada.

Big Mark,
Hope all is well with you.

Jeannie,
You can say that shit again.

Love to all,

SB

Yep. The Lutheran church she goes to is full of the gays and the trans, and it was one of the first local churches to go full on integrated during the civil rights era. Go liberal Lutherans!

DTG,
Good to hear. The ex's chuch was decidedly NOT liberal. I hated going there.

Dear SB, I definitely couldn't go out with anyone who made me go to church. I like to stay in bed on a Sunday! xx

Not sure if Steve McQueen needs to be dragged into this.

It made me SO FREAKIN HAPPY to imagine you doing this!!! I would SO do the same thing, or at least, I hope I would!

I was raised Catholic and FORCED to go to church WEEKLY until the age of 18 when I guess I was finally old enough to decide that I was clearly a second class citizen there in soooooo many ways. But I did a lot of comparative religion stuff in college, and I guess there are indeed two factions or sects or whatever of Lutherans... maybe someone can tell us their names. Anyway, sounds like you were at the conservative one, which from what I've heard is like SUPER conservative, like, it made me feel I was raised in the church of the ACLU...

Christina,
I made the sacrifice because I was in love. I'm with you though--I love to sleep in and then get up and have a good pot of coffee and a nice breakfast. Sometimes, this breakfast includes Bloody Marys.

We are peas in a pod, buddy.

Love you tons!

Omgrrrl,
You crack me up.

Tatyanna,
I just adore you. If we lived closer, we'd hang, and our cats would hang too. Laugh.

hay. it's not just for horses any more.

I hear your ass! I'm from the midwest, and I had to go to church a LOT. And it was such pucky I can't even believe I went there, even when I was forced to. I'm defiant, but only phlegmatically.

I saw this post title on my reader, but I couldn't click on any of my reader shit because I was slamming blog posts. It just cracked me up though.
