If I had to come to America for a long tour, I'd commit suicide too.

I love the band Joy Division, and I was reading an online bio of the band, when I encountered this:

Despite the band's growing success, vocalist Ian Curtis was beset with depression and personal difficulties, including a dissolving marriage and his diagnosis with epilepsy. Curtis found it increasingly difficult to perform at live concerts, and often had seizures during performances.

On the eve of the band's first American tour in May 1980, Curtis, overwhelmed with depression, committed suicide.

Ian Curtis was a genius. Love Will Tear Us Apart was the soundtrack of my angst-ridden teens. Love you. xxx

As a foreigner myself, I can assure you that America may be depressing, but not THAT depressing. The guy might have had a couple of issues.

That really is sad.

Joy Division is one of my all time favorite bands! Can you believe that the rest of the band did not clue into the fact that Ian was suffering from serious depression until after he killed himself? I take it they never actually listened to any of their own lyrics....

Poor Ian. Love him.

Vix,
Yes, he was. Love you too! I'm going thrift shopping tonight after work. I will think of you.

Reeny,
No, I can't, but then, as you know, the English are not really long on sharing feelings. Laugh.

Love to all!

Honestly, (don't laugh) I don't know who he is. And, my hubby volunteers at a suicide prevention hotline!
Damn sleeping pills........
(kidding)
I actually kinda agree with you, the us is a dark, selfish place with many cons vs pros (in my humble opinion) right now.
My goal (when i grow up) is to pick a town in Europe to die in.
(I mean live in, retire and then die)
you are so funny!
and as my loving, humanitarian hubby always says;
'joke em' if they can't take a fuck' ;)
( I really love coming here to get my sarcasm on........)
