Las Vegas Woman Missing for Four Months Found Dead Under a Pile of Junk in Her Own Damn House

Unbelievable. Only in America, folks.

Do you think shit like this is an indictment of our overly materialistic culture? I sure as hell do.

You can't take it with you, but it sure as fuck might take you with it.

I saw this story. While I don't watch the shows about folks like this, a girl I know, AKA, is a hoarder. It would not amaze me if the something similar happened as her home would always have the clingy 'smell' of something.

A decomposing body would only enhance the 'flavor' of the fragrance.

Wow--says something for being a minimalist.

Holy shit! Everytime I watch one of those hoarding shows, I have an overwhelming compulsion to clean.

Keep your eyes open though for my episode of animal hoarders. :)

Actually, these things happen in the UK too.

Not always in the detrius, but old folks with no family have lain undiscovered for YEARS.

And the media is OUTRAGED...there are questions in the House of Commons....and it still happens.

We need a sense of community to be restored to us. Fuck, am sounding like the Con Dems....

Mel,
My episode on Animal Hoarders will be right behind yours, sister.

Laugh.

Ali,
You are right about community. I read about your old folks lying dead in the stories in The Daily News and The Sun. I just love the English tabloids!

This is such a sad situation. Poor woman. All that junk was surely indicative of something deeply wrong in her life beyond the 'stuff'.OCD surelybut perhaps padding her life with stuff in lieu of perhaps a broken heart or as a distraction from fear of abandonment or poverty and being left with less than 'enough'--who knows. Must be suffocating; and, in this case, literally. This story reminds me of a similar famous case from 1947 of the famous Collyer brothers where one of the brothers also died in the quagmire of STUFF.
This is the link to show that instance of the Collyer brothers:

I also know (and painted the portrait for) Jerry Torre the former gardener/handyman from the Beale family; Edith Sr & Junior of Grey Gardens.
Those 2 women also lived in a disaster-zone in a previously affluent family of great financial-means; gorgeous Hampton estate home-turned raccoon-ridden, dilapidated nightmare of STUFF and squalor.
Sad and, at the same time, fascinating.

Denise,
We are birds of a feather, girl. I posted on the Collyer brothers awhile back. I found them fascinating.

That is so TOTALLY AWESOME that you met Jerry Torre. I am a HUGE fan of the Beale ladies. I have both Grey Garden movies in my collection. They are classic.

Too bad we don't live closer (I live in wretched Ohio). We could hang, girl. Laugh.

Much love and thanks for reading,

SB
