SB Asks for SO DAMN LITTLE, But My Ass Has a Request

Please watch Spike Lee's follow-up documentary about New Orleans (including the recent catastrophic oil spill), If God Is Willing and Da Creek Don't Rise. It's currently showing on HBO, and I imagine it will eventually come out on video. It is amazing. I watched it last night and stayed awake most of the night thinking about it. When I am angry, I usually can't sleep for shit.

I have always been a big fan of Spike--I think because we react to the world in the same way--with anger, especially about injustice. The footage and information in this documentary is just phenomenal. I can't say enough about it. Personally, I think they ought to show it in school, despite the language and footage of the dead.

On a side note, Brad Pitt took some flack for saying that he has had second thoughts about bringing capital punishment back in this film. Some of the press (especially the British press) remarked that maybe Brad was losing his marbles, but I understand what Brad was saying and I agree. As a matter of fact, I felt the same way during eight years of the presidency in this nation. A scaffold would have been too goddamn good for the fuckers.

Personally, I am fucking tired to goddamn death of poor southerners being ass raped (and murdered) by corporate greed. Someone in the documentary asked where our outrage is at at what happened (primarily meaning the BP oil spill). Then, the speaker asked what if this oil spill had occurred in the Hamptons. There sure as fuck would have been outrage then. I guess the primary attitude in this country is: Oh well, since it primarily affects the poor in the south, then whatever. I say fuck that shit. Fuck Washington DC and fuck the oil companies. Personally, I think all of Congress should be ridden out of town on rails.

And I must say that I'm inclined to believe that President Obama should have reacted with WAY MORE outrage to this crisis than he did. His toned down response makes me question whether he's in the pockets of the oil companies, too. I am losing respect for him. I know this is going to piss some of my readers off, but there's a time to be cool and a time for OUTRAGE. I think for once, Obama missed the mark. Outrage was required.

Rant over. Please see the film.

Note: This documentary is not for the squeamish, but grow some balls and watch it. If the good folks of New Orleans lived through it, the least you can do is watch it from the comfortable confines of your living room.

Boonie,
Don't thank me, just please watch the documentary if you can.

But thank YOU for reading and commenting. God bless.

I'll watch it if it comes this way.

For some reason, much less news about Obama filters through than it did for Bush up here. I am not a subscriber to newspapers so it pretty much has to be big news to get through.

Jeannie,
You will find the documentary interesting. I'm pretty sure.

Love you. Hug Dex for me.

I have always openly wondered where Obama's loyalties lie. During the campaign for the Democratic nomination, I remembered being a college student and could not see anyone on any campus coming up with enough $10 donations to amount to the cash that he had.

He was ALWAYS bought and paid for.

As to the crimniality of the oil spill, whenever anything happens to a marginalized segment of the population, there is not a big thing made of it. The Exxon Valdez still had to have left some after affects... why don't we hear about it? The cat that was stickin' brothers who resembled me, in color, age and vulnerability, had stuck nearly 20 cats, killing 5. When they finally decided to look for him, they found him in a few weeks because he was RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEIR FACES. No one bothered to investigate because no one was pressed about who he was hurting.

That is the way that it is and will always be. What people can always do is support those who are passionate enough to fight the good fight and donate money and supplies, not to mention their interest by keeping a fire lit under political representatives who find the time to line their own pockets after helping their rich friends scam money off of us.

I don't have access to a telly (long story) so I will have to wait for the video. Will definitely watch it.

Yeah, I can see what you and Spike have in common! A great passion for what you think and believe.

Thanks, buddy. I appreciate your comments.

We may have to wait for video but this is definitely on my list. I've been sick about Katrina effects for years--everyone with a brain KNEW what would happen and nothing was done to prevent it.

And the BP oil spill is hell on earth. I've been thinkin' the corporate fat cats and politicians should be marooned in the middle of the spill for a few weeks, see how they feel about safety procedures afterward.

Kathleen Dear,
I like your idea. Let's put those assholes out there. Sink or swim.

You are loved,

Amen, SB. Well said, as usual.

I will definitely see it. I wish that the President had been a little more angry too, but I heard him say that to get angry did no good. He said that finding a solution was more important than being angry. I believe that is is a man of action and not reaction.

I want to. I will. And I know I'll get really, really mad.

Syd,
You will find it interesting, I'm sure. And I hope you are right about the president. I'm just angry right now.

Ms. Moon,
You will be outraged, like me, but it's a must see.

You two are special to SB's heart. I love you.

Great post! I'll definitely look for this film. You make many good points here too. I'm losing some faith too and wonder what is going on...we needed some change, but we seem to be getting more of the same, with taxes rising to boot. Shit, I just don't know. And it is sad. I am seeing a lot of Katrina stories surfacing this week, with the anniversary in a few days. It is unbelievable that in our nation, great as it is, could let this happen. And the oil spill--don't get me started.

Jenn,
Yeah, it is truly unbelievable. Lately, I am having trouble sleeping just thinking about the mess we are in.

Love,

I'm glad you posted about this. I hadn't heard about this one, but watched the original Katrina film when it came out, completely enthralled and utterly disgusted at how little people in power cared.
