Got up at 5:30 this morning to be sure and get Raj the Schlub to the vet for his neutering surgery on time and went to get in the car, and the fucking key wouldn't turn in the ignition. [And no, the steering wheel was not locked.] Called the damn Hyundai service guy, and the fucker said the ignition was likely literally frozen from the extra cold weather we had last night. Great! I got up early for fucking nothing.
My supervisor came and picked me up for work. One of the guys here at work is going home with me at lunch to try and help. Hopefully the fucker will start. If not, I'll have to pay for a tow to the dealer way across town.
Sometimes it doesn't pay to be alive.
Have a great weekend all.

can you get a blow dryer on an extension cord in there to heat it up/ get the moisture out of the lock?
sometimes graphite powder in the locks/ ignition will help it not freeze, mr. m also said try lock de-icer, we think it's alcohol that might work too.

Hank,
Thank you. I love you!
Miss A. & Mr. M.,
Thanks. You two are dolls. I love you.
You're not deisel are you? I heard that is a major disadvantage with diesel cars, that the fuel can literally freeze up in winter...
Sorry I cannot offer any practical advice though. I would go for the blower dryer thingie....
Oof! There's nothing worse than car trouble. Make sure this goes in your journal for the book.
And if you don't keep a journal of this stuff, I might. Good material.
Hope your weekend is good and next week starts happy.
PS With this kind of start to the day, don't ride in any elevators.
SB- That stinks, especially due to the fact that you woke up early. Murph's Law really seem to be in full swing as of late....
Thanks, Gledds. Not a diesel, and I got it started at lunch. Thank Jesus, as my aunt would say.
Love you.
Lori,
Yes, that shit is in affect. BIG TIME.
Love you!
I guess the lame ass at the dealership got his advice from Korea eh? anybody ever tell you to heat the key? BIc lighter or maybe a dunk in some water fresh from the microwave (dried off before insertion because it ain't sex it's a frozen lock!)
Sometimes I have to turn the wheel a bit and then the ignition will turn on. Try that. The hairdryer idea is a good one too, but I suspect if you turn the steering wheel back and forth, it may work.
One time when i lived in MA, I went to put my key in the door of my truck to unlock it, and I could not get it to go in... I thought someone was playing a trick on me and I was actually freaked out and panicked. (Being from Fla and all, I did not realize that the key hole could freeze over!) It just never occurred to me!! I hear they make little key hole heaters for that.
Winter makes suckers of us all. i hope you got your car started with minimal cost and hassle.
