Dumb Ass Christians for SB's Good Friend J.

I have always been afraid of Muslims. I remember the last time I flew (in '89 I think) I was on the plane and 2 men were sitting I think across the aisle talking in a foreign language. I was terrified that they were hijackers, and I was almost in tears the whole flight. In retrospect I think they may have been speaking French. But it was so scary for me at the time.

I love this! And it's true! For me, anyway. Ha! Not for you, though, dear Ms. Bastard. You are no dipshit.

Oh Sb, thank you for this!

wow, that's all I can say for this guy.

On a slight side note, is it appropriate when giving a eulogy at a funeral to ask all the mourners to close their eyes and pray the billy graham prayer to let Jesus into their hearts? I was just there, and wasn't sure the appropriateness of it or not. Maybe you can clear this up for me.

I think I'm creating my own phobia... I'm a live and let live sort of person and it's no secret that if push came to shove I'd probably veer in the Buddhist direction. My boyfriend is Tunisian, and therefore, by default, Muslim. His family accept me totally and I feel so at home when we visit. Except for the side who live here in the UK, to whom I'm English pig-dog-scum! (Why are they living here?!)I think that because of the way they behave towards me, I've noticed that when I'm out these days that when I hear a foreign accent.... we have a lot of eastern european immigrants... seriously, it's starting to scare the shit out of me. WTF?! Witness, today, 3, count them, 1, 2, 3 panic attacks at the supermarket! I got something else to add to the list to get sorted out now ffs!
As with everything in life, it's the few that give the majority a bad name/reputation, and the Muslim/terrorist thing is clearly extremist. I try to educate myself, and have not got very far reading the Q'ran, but what I have read seems to have some logic. It's the few who twist words and use them for their own ends. It is supposed to be a religion opposed to violence and hatred. Like you, I still feel uneasy though... remember we had 7/7 and I'm starting to feel like a stranger in my own country

Dear J.,
You are welcome.

No, NOT APPROPRIATE. Jesus.

Are you okay? Was the deceased someone you were close to?

I hate funerals. Why the hell is "fun" a part of that word?

Love,

SB

Lilacsandy,
I, too, veer closest to Buddhism, but consider myself a humanist/agnostic.

I have absolutely no problem with the Muslim religion. In a lot of ways, it's quite lovely. I've watched a lot of BBC documentaries on Cat Stevens/Yusef. I admire him very much as a true representative of his religion. A few bad apples who misinterpret things always spoil the pot, so to speak. Look at the evangelical Christian movement over here in the States.

They are lucky to have you in the family. The part of the family who is non-accepting of you are just racist jerks.

I had guessed that you are English. I lived in Wolverhampton for awhile when I was just out of high school. Don't pity me (laugh). I enjoyed it very much. In some ways, I prefer the UK to the USA. I miss being there often.

Love you,

SB

Love you too SB. Yep Buddhism/humanist.... nice to find someone who is like minded. What gave the game away (apart from me saying the UK bit?!) was it my Dick Van Dyke "'ello Mary Poppins" accent? lol. Can't say I've ever been to wolverhampton... I live in the south (North Hampshire, by Surrey border)

Lilacsandy,
Actually, believe it or not, you look English. You are a lovely English rose. The English almost always have great hair and pretty complexions.

I didn't get the email link yet. My email address is ugadawg1@woh.rr.com

Maybe it's just a slow connection.

Love, SB.

sb,

It was Mr. Nh's grandfather, who I met twice. and the eulogy, given by his daughter, not even the priest. I was totally creeped out, but thought what the hell it's his daughter so it must be at least a little okay... or not.

It brought me back to when I was 12 and my grandma brought me to one of those 'accept christ' events, THAT was awkward. It seems like i can't escape people trying to make me born again...

xoxo
